Could a Justice League Game Work in the Avengers Live-Service Model?

The live-service format, used in Marvel’s Avengers, has received a lot of mixed feedback—but in theory, it could work for a Justice League game. Imagine a hub world set in the Hall of Justice or Watchtower, with ongoing missions, events, and hero unlocks rolled out over time.

Every character from Superman to Zatanna could have unique move sets and progression systems. Players could swap loadouts, mod powers, and grind gear from different arcs like Darkseid’s invasion, Brainiac incursions, or magical threats from Doctor Fate’s realm.

The big selling point of this model is customization. Want Batman with EMP-based stealth armor or Green Lantern wielding a different ring type? This format encourages experimentation. Plus, multiplayer lets players team up in real-time, which can be a blast in superhero scenarios.

However, the dangers of the live-service format are also clear. Repetitive missions, pay-to-win systems, and story dilution are common pitfalls. Justice League fans won’t appreciate a grindy system that cheapens their favorite characters.

To succeed, this format would need to ditch microtransactions, maintain high-quality story drops, and focus on narrative arcs just as much as gear. Done right, it could offer a continually evolving DC Universe playground. Done wrong, it’ll be another missed opportunity.
