The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a 2023 action-adventure video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. The player controls Link as he searches for Princess Zelda and fights to prevent Ganondorf from destroying Hyrule.
Campaign:
Tears of the Kingdom delivers one of the most well-crafted stories in the Legend of Zelda series, featuring exceptional worldbuilding, an extensive campaign, and hours of immersive gameplay and exploration. The narrative builds on the foundation laid by Breath of the Wild, expanding the lore and further developing the world of Hyrule. The story introduces rich new elements, weaving in ancient history, legendary figures, and the ever-present struggle against darkness. And also, the addition of the sky island and the Depths just enriches the world further for exploration and lore. This installment continues allowing players complete freedom from the Zelda formula of previous games. If you want to go to the temples, you can and if you don't want to you don't have to. And you can go in any order that you want.
The characters are a standout feature, with both main and supporting roles being well-written and memorable. Link shines in this incarnation, displaying more personality and agency as he faces monumental challenges. Zelda is equally compelling, her strong presence anchoring much of the emotional weight of the story. Ganondorf’s return as a fearsome and overwhelmingly powerful antagonist raises the stakes, adding depth to the series' iconic villain.
While the expanded lore enriches the world, some elements feel disconnected from prior entries. The inclusion of new characters like Rauru and Sonia, as well as the focus on dragons and ancient history, can feel at odds with established lore, particularly concerning Calamity Ganon and the Demon King.
Despite minor inconsistencies, Tears of the Kingdom delivers an unforgettable campaign, captivating characters, and a story that stands as a high point in Zelda’s storied legacy.

Gameplay:
Tears of the Kingdom elevates the open-world action-adventure gameplay established in Breath of the Wild by introducing innovative mechanics, expanded areas, and enhanced combat dynamics. One of the most notable additions is the inclusion of companion avatars who assist Link in battles. Fighting alongside your own "crew" brings a refreshing sense of camaraderie and strategy, especially when facing hordes of enemies or larger-than-life bosses.
The game expands Hyrule's landscape with two new regions: the sky, featuring floating islands with puzzles and treasures, and the Depths, a vast, ominous underground filled with hazards like gloom that challenge exploration. These areas add verticality and mystery, further enriching the already expansive world.
New abilities, including Ultrahand, Fuse, Ascend, Recall, and Autobuild, redefine gameplay. Players can construct vehicles, combine materials with weapons, and rewind objects, fostering creativity in exploration and combat. Zonai devices enhance these mechanics, offering tools for innovative problem-solving and traversal.
Classic elements like Shrines and Korok seeds return, encouraging exploration and rewarding players with upgrades. The revamped recipe system also streamlines crafting meals and elixirs.
With engaging dungeons, inventive mechanics, and a seamless blend of exploration and combat, Tears of the Kingdom offers one of the most dynamic and rewarding gameplay experiences in the Zelda series.
